CHALLENGE
Equal Ground, a leading non-profit-organisation advocating LGBTIQ+ political & human rights in Sri Lanka, wanted to build an advocacy and action plan to intervene in the healthcare access of the LGBTIQ+ community in Sri Lanka.
APPROACH
- We deep dived into the ecosystem with multiple data feeds
- Immersions with LGBTIQ+ community members: To identify key tensions and unmet needs in the healthcare sector
- Participator Observations at the healthcare facilities: To understand the ground level realities and the issues faced by the community
- Interactions with the healthcare service providers: To understand the constraints and realities from the service providers POV
- Expert Interviews: To spot future needs, macro realities and global inspiration on the needs and direction of the healthcare
IMPACT
- Input into advocacy and policy making through identified touch points to create better access to healthcare of the LGBTIQ+ community in Sri Lanka
- A framework to create a training plan for doctors and other healthcare staff
- A strategic guideline on emerging needs and future direction of the healthcare needs of the LGBTIQ+ community
